too much moisture in the substrate traps and encourages bacterial and mold/mildew growth.

This is what a larger sized water dish is for.

If I am at all worried that the humidity isn't high enough I just block off part of the top (screen tops). The more you block and the larger the water bowl the higher the humidity.

I personally do not recommend spraying the substrate. Especially with something like ReptiBark. The moisture helps release the harmfull oils.

That is also one of the reasons most people really don't like the EcoEarth, it dries out too quickly and as I stated earlier if you have to contiunually moisten it you advance the changes of bacteria and mold/mildew growth.
