To say that they "never" drink from standing water isn't entirely true. I've seen chameleons that have been somewhat trained to drink from a water dish. The owners used a dripper or something to that effect to create moving water into the dish. Now, this method is discouraged due to the possibilty of bacteria and micro organisms developing in water dishes. Bottomline is, bowl watering is discouraged because of health hazards and the fact that it isn't a natural chameleon behavior. It's not impossible, just not condoned.
