Breeding Rats

I'm currently spending about $30 a week at the local petstore for rats for my burm and 2 red tails. Would it be easier and cheaper for me just to breed my own rats and if so can anyone currently breeding their own rats give me some advice on it. I have a set up I can use to keep the rats in and would have them in my garage because its not cold outside anymore where I live. How long is the gestation period of the mom and after they are born would I have to seperate them from the male rat? Does anybody know of any good websites? Thanks for any advice in advance.
