I was checking out a page at Prestige Herps website at http://www.prestigeherps.co.uk/is_calcium.html

There is a chart listed with relative nutritional values of insects including their calhos ratio. If crickets have a ratio of 1:5 then shouldn't we dust crickets with calcium powder at every feeding (mainly refering to adults because I know hatchlings are already supposed to get this) instead of only 3-4 times a week as some books suggest? I guess that means if you only feed crickets 3-4 times a week and salad the rest?

I wouldn't even worry about hypercalcemia since the calcium carbonate that most of us use is only 10% absorbable. Our lizars are probably still not getting enough calcium. I understang that some greens have pretty decent calhos ratios, but many also have calcium binding substances like oxalic acid and phytic acid. So basically you should add calcium to every salad you feed too?

I guess I'm just trying to clarify feeding techniques and want to hear input from others.

Are there any other websites or books that show insect nutritional values? Preferably ones that state their sources.

Jessica
