Copper head? Pictures attached

Today while geocaching (www.geocaching.com) i walked over a log and a snake crawled out, my buddy pointed it out to me since he was behind me. Im not sure what kind it is, a copperhead?

He tried to grab it behind the head but it struck at him. I was going to cut its head off but wasnt sure if my knife was sharp ebough (Please dont kill me for saying that, although that could be seen as being a 'troll')

any ways it went on its way but what kind is it? I am in WV, usa.
