Posted by: Jolliff at Mon Mar 29 22:06:38 2004 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by Jolliff ] there is a study being conducted thru OSU & the NHL (via Teryy Wilkins). We had a nice little write up in the Columbus Dispatch that shows a pic. of the size of the needle in comparison to the snake. I know you are not looking for personal stories but I can't resist the opportunity to tell one. We PIT Tagged all of our breeders and two year old animals this past fall. We have only lost two so far. It is unforunate that one of them was a breeder male Albino Licorice Stick (I value @ approx. 1K). We just PIT Tagged the '03 babies which we are raising up for breeders. The other animals were larger but these are the 18" SVL animals that require tagging. The applicator syringe is over half the girth of the animal. When I removed the syringe from the snake, the insides of the snake came out of the injection point. The width of the tear in the skin let the intestines just "bubble out"!! It was one of the most horrible things I have ever been a part of!! And they say PIT Tagging is harmless!!?? If this is not just a way for the ODNR to generate income, why is it not illegal to kill animals that aren't endangered? Why do we have to pay for permits & micro-chips (that kill our C.b.b. babies) but we can kill all we want for free & w/out being fined or punished??? Talk about an abuse of power - bureaucrats at work..... | ||
