Okay, I think that I have done my research on corn snakes, but just when I think that I'm learning a lot, my corn goes off and does something that I've never come across in my research. The other day, I was looking into my corn snake's enclosure. I looked into the entrance to his hide box just to make sure that he was there. I couldn't see him. So, just to make sure that he really was in there, I opened up the cage (which I thought was very secure) and took off the lid to his hide box. He wasn't in there!!! I could have had a heart attack right there! I knew that corns were escape artists, but I couldn't believe that it had happened to me. So, I thought about it. I decided to sift through the substrate with my fingers. When I got to the deepest area, I must have startled him and he jumped. He had burrowed in! I took a big sigh of relief. He wasn't gone! But I am still very puzzled about the burrowing part. A similar thing happened about 2 months ago when I got him. I have seen him half burried under his substrate and also trying to burrow in. So why does my corn burrow? Has anyone else run into this behavior? Maybe it's normal and I just don't know my stuff!!!
