mississippi map turtle?

we went to the reptile expo this weekend for a female bearded dragon. well my 4 year old son went turtle crazy; so we got him a mississippi map turtle approx 1 inch in diameter now. what is the proper forum for discussion on this breed. I currently have him in a 10 gallon tank with a basking bulb and uv lights. i have a 100 gallon tank ready for when he gets bigger. any advice i know nothing about turtles but my son fell in love and im a sucker. he is eating reptomin turtle food but he will not catch them out of the water i have to soften them up in the water then set them on his rock for him to eat. what else do they eat; is my set up ok; any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance
