I've not looked into tile setting for a while but I'll give this a shot.



Tile grout can be used at times as a tile adhesive. However, there are tile adhesives that are not used as tile grouts.



My guess is that most tile adhesives would be innapropriate for a fake rock background.



To be safe use the grout. Unless someone chimes in and corrects me.
