The status of Heterodon nasicus kennerlyi

Heterodon nasicus kennerlyi has been elevated to Heterodon kennerlyi. This was primarily due to the fact that azygous scale numbers are fairly diagnosable for this group. A recent journal article deals with this topic and can be found online.

I think elevating H.n.kennerlyi to its own species was long in coming but there are some problems with it. There are some specimens that appear to be intermediates but after having reviewed as much biogeographical information I could find I believe them to be a result of a secondary contact and therefore not a problem for the species concept.
