It is not a requirement. But why take wild amphibians when the snake does not require them? Amphibians are, on a world-wide scale, on the decline. Mice are specifically bred to be feeders, and hognose can be quite opportunistic and have been found to take mice before in the wild. Amphibians and fish can also have quite significant parasite loads. And despite popular belied, hognose do not require amphibians to stay healthy. ----- Andy Maddox
