>>It is unfair that all these herp laws are even being proposed and some passed and yet all the other pet keepers (the fish, birds, and mammals) don't have to deal with this?
Best to deal with facts. I bred birds for 20 years, from approx 1970 to 1990, in florida, and during that time regs were introduced and licensing procedures put in place that are like those we're dealing with re: reptiles. And with mammals there are even MORE regulations: I have to get my cats inoculated, annual relicensing, etc.--anybody making you do that with each of your reptiles? I didn't think so! Agricultural mammals are even more closely monitored and regulated, with good reason I think.
I'd recommend any of several books about what life was like during the big outbreaks of plague. Not ALL of the animal regs are part of a vast conspiracy to prevent you from keeping a snake or turtle or lizard.
