It is very rare to find a restriction on an actual snake species, rather if it is venomous, endangered(or threatened), and the size. In Illinois it is hard to even find someone that knows the laws. I called the fish and game and the department of agriculture and neither of them know anything. One source I kind of trust is a person with a usda liscense for exotics. for this he needs to give a certain amout of educational shows per year and he needs to keep at least 6 different non reptile exotics. He told me in this state you can own snakes for your private owndership up to 14 ft(why 14 feet i have no idea). (some city limits have their own regulations). A store cannot sell a snake over 6 feet but for some reason there is a way to get around that and sell 8 foot snakes but I have no idea what it is. I udes to work in a pet store and i can tell you from experience that even owners and managers don't know anything about this stuff and can feed you through a huge load of bs.
