KXLY (Spokane, Washington) 26 April 04 Alligator and Snake Seized in Traffic Stop

Authorities in North Idaho say an alligator, snake, turtle and tarantulas found during a DUI stop Saturday night, have been taken to a shelter in Boise.

The traffic stop happened on Highway 3 near Rose Lake just after 6pm on Saturday. Idaho State Police troopers pulled over a Budget rental truck. They say people inside were throwing beer bottles out a window. When one of the troopers approached the cab of the truck, they saw the alligator running loose in the front with the three suspects. Troopers also found a turtle in the cab, as well as snakes and a number of tarantulas in the back of the truck.

The three suspects were all arrested on separate charges.
