14 hours of "daytime" is good if you're not brumating. If he's tired from all the exhausting things uros do, he will "turn in" early. Also, it may be a more comfortable temp in the hideout. More than likely, it's the least stressfull place. If the food is available, I wouldn't worry too much about it. All three of mine do that now and again.
