On May 6, 2004, the Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries Commission imposed new regulations on macroclemys temminckii, the alligator snapping turtle in respose to Senate Resolution 49 by Senator Robert Barham. This resolution was to urge and request that the LDWF place a moratorium on the taking of alligator snapping turtles. The Commissioners voted to put into effect in September of 2004, the new regulation that halts the taking or possession of alligator snapping turtles or their parts thereof by anybody that has a Louisiana Collector's License, a Wholesale/Dealer's License or a commercial fishing license. The recreational or pet portion is not affected. You may still collect up to 4 per day if you have a basic fishing license but they may not be bought, sold or traded. ~Watts What~ Link
