Well it is said that they can be nasty. But it differs for every snake. They are also thought of as very "intelligent", and act very alert and curious when handled (personal experience only).
They will also let you know if they are aggitated by hissing or striking. Just because they are a "fat" snake, does not mean they are not fast.

Like I said, different snake, differnt temperments.
Thats like asking what the temperments of rottweilers are like.
