also, are blood pythons good beginner/intermediate snakes? i have owned a ball python, several WC garters, WC cornsnakes, and WC ratsnakes? (not sure what they actually were). I am getting another BP shortly (when the cage is done), due to my first one escaping. I can set up the proper humidity and temps easily (rubbermaids own), but i have heard about bloods being aggressive, horrible feeders (does heating the prey item up work good?), and just not hardy (slight temp/humidity changes affect them a lot?). Would you recomend a blood or short-tailed python for me? if not why? also, if so are there any places to get quality bloods besides pro-exotics and NERD?





I would say, as a beginner or intermediate snake.....maybe. How long have you had snakes and how in tune are you with them? The thing with bloods is that they are less forgiving in their tolerances. If you screw up the husbandry they don't do well. If their temps and humidity are not great, they get sick.



I have not seen mean or bad feeding ones as I think the captive breeding is really helping with those issues. Mine is puppy dog tame and eats like there is no tomorrow. Though WCs certainly have had those troubles if you buy from a quality breeder it will lessen the chances.

I got my black SST from Larry Kenton (Maryland Reptile Farm) at a show. He has had some marbled bloods too. I would go with NERDs or PE if they had the dark headed type I want.
