Night drop, baby getting moved out of shoebox into a tank,

does anybody cut all the lights after dark and let the tank go to room temp or use a UTH. I have been using a red bulb for a basking area along 100 to 105 degrees on top of a leaning branch with a 8.0. I have been leaving the red bulb on all night but temps have only been getting into the mid 70's here at night. I figure in the scrub lands where they are from it cools down considerably when the sun sets. I was going to start cutting the light at night when the UV light goes out. Sound ok? If so I am going to get a spot style white bulb. Makes it look all funky with the bluish 8.0 and the red bulb. He has been in a shoebox with heat tape and a small 8.0 but has outgrown it.
