Black Eastern Hogs are the dominant color phase in certain parts of their range. They hatch looking fairly normal but grow into black adults.

Actually, they range from glossy jet black to charcoal gray or dirty brown, depending on the locality.

This snake is a black phase from the Savannah River Site in South Carolina. Black Easterns are the norm there.
