can crickets hurt my cham?

I have a very young chameleons. There are lots of pinhead crickets in the cage; much smaller than the chameleon. I've noticed that a few were sitting on the chameleon (there are many more than he can eat!). Can these hurt him? Should I typically keep the crickets in a separate cage till feeding time?
