Well, I know that chain pet places can vary widely in competence etc, but the Petco here actually isn't too bad and on all of the animal cages there is a little sticker that gives the name, # and address of the veterinary clinic that provides care to the animals. Seen anything like this at your local store? Or you could call and check. That vet or clinic may offer a one-time exam and/or test of an animal purchased through that store, if not for free, for reduced fees.
If not, fecal screenings shouldn't run you more than $25.
