my snake smells like poop

Is there a reason for this? Its a ball python. he doesnt smell so strongly that i can smell him from far away, only when his body is close to my nose. his tank is clean, but the bedding is about 2 months old. is it time to be changed? how can i make him not smell? is this a sign of anything?
