Hi all,

It's been awhile since I posted, but I figured you might be interested in an update regarding the blanket constrictor ban currently in place in my city of Upper Arlington, Ohio.

Since my last post, I've contacted all members of the city council, asking for information on why the law was founded. Here's the letter I got in response:

"Dear Ms. Lee:

This letter is written to address your questions concerning the ban on reptiles and constrictor snakes found in Upper Arlington Ordinance § 519.06. This ordinance was drafted based on a request from the City’s Board of Health back in 1980. The ordinance was written in order to improve the animal control within the City and to create a safer environment. The ordinance was reviewed by the Board of Health and that body strongly recommended passage by City Council. The ordinance was subsequently passed by City Council in 1980.

Please contact the City Attorney if you have additional questions."

I don't think I've ever heard of a more ungrounded and biased law. :/

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to successfully counteract this? I'm hoping to have the support of the local International Herp Lobbyists (IHL) as well as a petition with signatures from the All-Ohio Reptile Show at the end of this month. Can anyone offer any other advice, links to helpful articles, health statistics, etc.?
