A House floor amendment was added to HB1319 to change existing law of "constrictors over 12 feet" needing permits to "constrictors that can reach 12 feet". The DWF, the Louisiana Reptile and Amphibian Task Force, the LA SPCA, the Audubon Zoo and the LGCHS are all in agreement that this amendment is vague, ambiguous and unenforceable. We are asking Senator Chris Ullo to remove the word "can" from line 12 of HB1319. This will restore the integrity of Act 1221 from last year which regulates non-indigenous constrictors over 12 feet and venomous snakes. If you would like to help, please call the Louisiana Senate switchboard at 225-342-2040 and ask for Senator Chris Ullo or his legislative aid, David Smith, and tell him that you support his Senate floor amendment to remove "can" from line 12 of HB1319. The vote will probably be on Thursday afternoon, June 10.
We are grateful for your assistance.
