Posted by: greg woodie at Thu Jun 17 16:27:01 2004 [ Email Message ] [ Show All Posts by greg woodie ] the Virginia Herp Society had a BioBlitz last weekend and a fellow member/friend of mine brought me this HUGE melanistic female Eastern Hognose which he and his dog found while fishing near where they live. i was pretty sure she was gravid, but didn't expect her to start laying for another month or so. this is what i beheld last night around midnight! i watched her lay the last 3 or 4 eggs - 34 in all!! i was so nervous i called another friend of mine and got him out of bed for some helpful advice. this is my first time taking care of eggs and i wanted to be sure i was doing all the right things. the first thing he told me was to get the eggs off of the aspen, which i did. i already had the containers for the eggs, but no incubating medium! i had to improvise a little before rushing out this morning to get some vermiculite. | ||
