Male crested tail problem

My male crested gecko seems to have "floppy tail" - in addition it looks like the skin towards the end of the tail is "crusty". I am worried that it may be a fungus of some type. Any suggestions? We are planning on taking him to the zoo vet tomorrow - but your input would be appreciated.
