before i get to the questions. just wanted to let everyone know that i finally got some good size mealies and waxies. the 100 ct i bought must've stayed in the store for atleast 3 weeks, i fed 2 to my baby and it had a hard time swallowing, and never touched anymore. didnt eat for 2 days afterwards. so today i threw those out, and went to the local petco, and opened the fridge and what do i see, mealies dated 6/29, and waxies dated 6/22. i opened up the mealworm cup, and i finally saw what everyone meant by skinny "regular" mealworms. the ones i had before were like twice/three times that size. so i bought a 50 ct of each, and brought them home, made a little dish out of tin foil, and stuck 5 small mealies, and 2 small waxies into the gecko's largest and favorite hide. i've never put the dish inside of its hide before, but i figure i might as well try and take a chance, since it wasnt touching any of the worms when the dish was out in the open. (it might've been because of the size of the mealies before too). but when i got home, i lifted up its hide, and only 2 inactive mealies left! i looked everywhere for the 2 waxie and 3 mealies, and nothing!! i hope they are all in its belly. this is the first time it has eaten that much in one day. i think i finally got it.



1st question:

i know there is a post a little bit down about how many time a week (and how many) to feed waxies to your gecko, but i wanted to know what is the best formula for a juv/baby (4" gecko. i just bought a 50 ct (threw out like 10 right away dead/dying and too large).



2nd question:

i posted this in the feeder forum, but got nothing. i am in a situation right now that is impossible for me to put worms in the fridge. so this is how i have my worms set up right now. i pick out 8-10 small mealies, stick them in a small plastic box(w/holes) with flukers cricket feed (dry) as substrate, and a couple of the cricket complete bites (wet). i leave those in the box overnight, then i will use those to restock the dish. but the rest of the mealies as well as all the waxies, i keep them in the original container w/ original subststrate down in the garage in a dark corner which i tempguned (great tool, fun too, thanks for the tip everyone) to be about 72 degrees daytime (which is as cool as its gonna get in s. califorina in the summer.) i will keep moving the mealies up to the gutload box as needed. but the waxies i dont plan to move anywhere except straight into the wormdish (once i figure out how many and when) because i read that they need to be in honey/oat mixture, so i figure the cricket gutload will do them no good, and the mositure might kill them (i read). i dont know what the original substrate is, but it's the same in both the mealie and waxie container, although the waxie container smells like honey (might be the worms themselves). the substrate looks oatmealish with white powder stuff on the flakes. both are from rainbow mealworms in compton. so my question is, how long can i keep these guys in the dark corner, before they die or morph? i figure the mealies should be all gone in 2-3 weeks if they can last that long, but the waxies i dont know how many will get eaten in a week, so i dont know how long they will last ideally. but i wanted to get an actual idea of when they will become unuseable? sorry for this insanely lengthy post, but as a new gecko owner, i am feeling pretty insanely good that it is actually eating that well (knock on wood). thanks everyone.
