As for safe plants, I have heard pythos are safe, just make sure what they come in is safe as well (ie. no fertilizers, pesticides...). I'm not sure how common they are. Once you get a big plant, my favorite little ones are air plants. They don't need any soil so they make for an easy clean up. If you find a good place to get safe plants and they ship, let me know. I've been looking for a long time. There are a few good ones in the US. This site is awesome for ideas http://www.blackjungle.com/. Good luck, post pics
