I've wondered the same thing!!

I always ask what the parents are before I purchase a snake-- just to be safe. If they don't know what they are talking about, I don't buy from them. There are a lot of people out there with high hopes and good intentions, but no smarts when it comes to genetics! So far, everyone I have delt with on kingsnake has been correct in their ad's. representations. (66% vs. 50% vs. 100 % hets--etc.) I've heard some amazingly confused people (customers) at expos! I think the fact that you have to pay to advertise on kingsnake weeds out a lot of the rif-raf/uneducated.
