This gene can become complicated-- some refer to it as an incomplete dominance. This basically means that there are many ways this gene is expressed. The lack of black equals hypo, but what we do not know in the case of the Nics is how many of the reduced black imports (hypo) is indeed a genetic trait. In other words there is still a lot of work to be done and as more people breed and produce Captive Bred animals that are hypo the more guaranteed lines of hypomelanism there will be in Nicaraguan boas.
