potty shy ball pythons

My ball was eating regularly, drinking water and very active. he had problems not going poop, after two months of soaking in tepid water, saline solutions, and no success. I took him to the vet and the vet suggested putting him in a dark shoebox, with absolutely no light and no water, the next day there it was a huge turd, and of course I thought it might have been a retained skull, but no he was just potty shy anybody else have any problems like this?
