I dont reccomend doing what I do because I dont want something to go wrong and I get blamed for a lost tail, but depending on the gecko, most of mine will actually walk on my hands so they are no problem to get out, and then I put them in a container, but for the ones I dont trust not to try and run away I gently grab them by the shoulders, and put them in a container I make sure not to go near their tail.
