I would trade in the heat lamp for an incandescent light NOW. Heat lamps are a waste of money for a bp...a 40-watt soft-white bulb should do just fine. If your temps get too high, I'd turn off the light first and see how that does...if still too high, then turning off the UTH nearest the middle of the tank would probably be a good idea.
