Soft Spot on Turtle...Bad?

Today I was soaking my turtles and I was cleaning off one when I felt that the very tip of his nose was soft. It was just a small area. If anyone knows about this condidtion and its affects, please let me know so I can get him to a vet if need be. This little guy spends quite a lot of time in the dirt, he has a good appetite, and it didn't appear to have any mucous coming from its nose. PLEASE HELP!
