Hey,
I live in NC & the laws vary from county to county. So regardless of what the state laws are, you need to check with your local Animal Control office. You can check the state laws by going to: http://www.ncwildlife.org/
Even if you only have corn snakes, a permit is required if you have 5 or more. But the permits are only $5 and they are good for a year. They expire on Dec.31st.
If you are a lizard keeper, in most counties no permit is required. However, no venomous or crocodilians.
