From the looks of it you had two males, the large femoral pores and the bulges at the base of the tail would indicate this. Although the one on the right it's difficult to get a good look at the tail. Sounds like it may have died from parasites. Not unusual for Malis to have them and most of the time they won't kill them but the introduction of the other Mali may have been enough to stress the first one out. But I'm not a vet although I do play one on T.V.
