How large is the snake?

An old trick for problem feeders is to put a hide box in the cage. Put a fuzzy mouse in there and let the snake crawl into the box on it's own. It will find the food and (hopefully will eat). Leave the fuzzy there overnight and leave the sanke alone till you check. It probably is stressed from the transfer to it's new home and human contact (if a Philodryas, it is not a snake to be handled casualy).

It might also be fixated on reptile prey so you may need lizards (unless your friend can confirm that it ate mice).
