Try to make him feel very secure. The closer his tank is to his natural environment the better. An easy way to do it is to use a few plastic aquarium type plants laying on the bottom of his tank. The more places to hide the better they feel. At least it worked for a few of mine. They don't even use the hide3 box anymore. They just hide in the "brush." Also, fresh killed is the way to go with mine as well. They can still pick up the heat and see it twitch a little. I just dangle it by the plant they're hiding in and after a minute of smelling the pop out and grab it. Hope it helps. Keep us posted.
