Hi there, I've always prefered to use Pinheads to Fruitflies if the baby is big enough, and in your case, 1 day old panther chameleons are usually big enough for pinheads. Pinheads are easier to feed to babies in my opinion because the yare easier to keep in the chameleon enclosure, plus they are more healthy because u can gutload them.
Don't worry about your babies not eating yet, as some babies may take up to 3 days or more to finally start eating. But when they start eating, you better be ready, because they are going to severly increase spaciousness in your wallet.
About teh problem with yoru fruitflies escaping, i say swithc to pinhead then you won't have that problem.
