In all honesty your Flapneck will stay "scared". Chameleons generally are a showcase "pet". Meaning they are to be looked at but handled as litle as possible. I can tell you from my personal experiences with my flapneck, they are VERY nervous chameleons ALOT more so then any other species I have owned. when i have handled mine she always fires up and attacks then as i place her ON THE BOTTOM OF HER CAGE she stays fired up but flops around a bit. I emphasize place her on the bottom because if i don't she throws herself to the floor of the cage and flops about to escape the immediate "danger" she is in. the first time she did this i was taken back, it really shocked me. after some thought though i understood it was her fight or flight response. just remember Flapnecks are VERY nervous in nature and the less you handle them the better off you guy will be. As far as their life span four years sounds about right.
