Don't know about the interbreeding. You'll probably have to ask a roach expert online. As for climbing, the nymphs of many species can climb even if the adults don't. The trick to keeping them in a tub is to smear Vaseline or petroleum jelly in a rim around the inside top of the tub. They hate to even set a foot in it.
