I've used gravel, aspen, eco-earth, paper towels, newspaper and bark of substrate for my snakes. They have their pros and cons, personally i use Repti-bark for all of my snakes. It holds humidity great and i don't have problems cleaning it, that's because i feed all of them in a separate enclosure with paper towles and let them there until they defecate so they won't mess their main cage. I also clean the main cages even though they are not dirt every month. ----- -Miki
