Has anyone tried using small pond pumps in your monitors soaking tubs?

Im considering this idea instead of the fish tank pumps in my salvator tub. I would think that pumps for ponds would be more durable and there would be less of a chance of clogging. So if if anyone has tried this approach any pro and cons will be greatly appreciated.
