In my experience, Black babies hatch not black, but kinda dull grey with sharp black heads. They look quite similar to hatchling golds, unless you have seen a lot of babies and then they become easier to diferentiate. One thing with Blacks, neonates are much larger than the Golds with 20" and 40 grams out of the egg being common. Golds are significantly smaller. The major differences become apparent as quickly as the first shed. Blacks start to darken up and Golds start to lighten up.
