Yeah...I had my doubts too. However it is found in India, Burma, Pakistan and other countries that would suggest an intrusion of the species into China.



Indraneil Das in his book PHOTOGRAPHIC GUIDE TO SNAKES AND OTHER REPTILES OF INDIA does in fact claim southern China as being part of the species range.



But then also, the fact that it was "from" China did not necessarily mean it was collected there.
