Andy,

I am from Melbourne and keep a wide variety of herp from Taipans to crocodiles to blue tongues and just about anything in between. I would do a search for the Queensland Herpetological Society. Its president is Paul Woolf who is a good bloke and could certainly put you in touch with some local keepers, who could show you appropriate caging and then the animals themselves.
