mating habits of ball python

I got two ball pythons from a friend and was told that they both should be the same sex. But I do not know this for sure. But lately they have been acting different. Late at night they started to roam around the tank and intertwining with each other alot. They do it for a few hours. I have seen it three times in the last three weeks. So I am wondering if this is some kind of mating thing or something else. I grew up with rat snakes but dont recall ever seeing them do this. But then again my father wasnt breeding them. Thank you for any help anyone can give me on this.
