Thanks for the compliments. They are a Madagascan native, like the panther. They are still exported each year in limited numbers under the quota system. Wild caughts are prevalent during certain times of year, but rarely do well in captivity because of the myriad of inherent problems with wild-caught chameleons. They are often-times heavily parasitized and females (which are usually gravid) are especially sensitive, and most die early on. This individual is captive-hatched. They are a much better choice if you desire to get a specimen of this species. Captive bred/hatched are also very hard to find unfortunately. This is due in part, though not entirely, to the fact that many clutches of eggs fail to hatch, do to some not so obvious incubation requirements. Many breeders will tell you many different incubation techniques and many of them conflict with each other. Others say that there is no need to incubate them differently, than say, panther eggs. I have a few eggs due to hatch in about 2 weeks, and with luck, I may find baby carpets pipped through the eggs soon. Only time will tell, but when candled the eggs clearly contain fully (or nearly so) developed babies that wriggle noticeably in reaction to the light used "spy" on them. Another clutch, which is fathered by the pictured male, is due around the beginning of January, though I suppose only the eggs really know when or if they will hatch at all If I have any surplus babies to offer for sale, it will not be until spring at any rate. I suggest that you just keep your eyes peeled on the classifieds section of kingsnake, as they do appear here and there. Thanks again!
