but not quite so dramatic. In fact I posted this earlier, but it's worth sharing again in this context. Back in June I found this little girl on the side of my house one night while I was cleaning out my water monitors' water trough. Didn't see (or notice her) for the 10 minutes I was actually doing the scrubbing and hosing, and then went back in the garage to replace and fill the water container. When I went back over to the side of the house to turn off the flood light and hose, there she was all stretched out in plain view, kinda like she was waiting for me to come back. So, as I usually do when I find these guys in my neighborhood, I picked her up to examine her and was then going to show her to my 6 year old daughter (reptile nut!) and then let her go again. Upon closer inspection though, I noticed she was thin and very beat up with some old, healing wounds all over her body and this weird eye. Anyway, decided to keep her for awhile (at least a couple of sheds until her wounds healed up) and turn her loose again. Well, she was very stressed out and refused all feeding attempts for two weeks. Then she finally started eating on a regular basis and calming down, sooooo we decided to keep her. Again, just wanted to share a little story about a tough little corn snake. Billy

I stopped to check out if it had indeed been hit - and it was hit in the head and neck. It was barely moving, and looked as if it was slowly dying. I gently picked it up and placed it in my car and told my 11 year old son who was with me that it didn't look good for the poor little GAL! There was blood coming out of her mouth one of her eyes was destroyed, and she was moving very erratically. I figured I might as well hold on to her, because I would feed her to one of my WC Kingsnakes if she died - so that way her loss wouldn't be a waste. After returning home I placed her into an Aquarium with some newspaper and a bowl of water. She seemed to be doing no worse then - but no better either. But at least the bleeding stopped. I decided to wait a night. The next morning I was expecting to see a rigid, dead snake, but instead I found a lively one-eyed little girl who was not ready to quit yet! That was last week! Today she ate a F/t fuzzy mouse and is doing extremely well. She has a small scar on her head, lost an eye, and has another bigger scar on her neck. But it has been a week now and I plan on breeding her in 2006! I thought that this was worth sharing. Not all snakes that get hit by cars die!!! And some NEVER QUIT!!!!!!!!!!!! Hooray to the tough little 32" female corn snake!
